THE GOSPEL

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek," Romans 1:16.
Jesus said, "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned," Mark 16:15-16.
The gospel contains FACTS to be believed, COMMANDS to be obeyed, and PROMISES to be received.
The FACTS are announced in 1 Corinthians 15:3-4. "For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures." The COMMANDS are these: believe, John 20:31, Mark: 16:15-16; repent, Luke 13:3 and 5, Acts 17:30; confess faith in Christ, Romans 10:9-10, Matthew 10:32; be baptized (immersion in water) for the remission of sins, Acts 2:38, Romans 6:3-4. The PROMISES to be received are: the forgiveness of sins, Ephesians 1:7, the hope of eternal life, I John 2:25, together with all spiritual blessings in Christ, Ephesians 1:3.
The facts of the gospel appeal to our intellects. We can think about them, reason concerning them, and believe them.
The commands appeal to our willpower. We can form intentions and purposes regarding them and obey them.
The promises of God appeal to our affections. We can desire them, love them and trust God for their fulfillment.
Therefore, the divisions of the gospel are fitted to man's nature and demonstrate the wisdom of God in devising the gospel as His only means of saving man.
Happy is the man who believes all the facts, obeys all the commands, and goes through life trusting God's promises. The Bible teaches that eternal life with God awaits the faithful Christian, I John 2:25; 5:11.
