MGM+’s ‘The Magnificent Seven’ Adds 4 To Series Regular Cast
The upcoming series ‘The Magnificent Seven’ is expanding its cast with four new actors joining the ranks of series regulars. This addition of talent includes Joshua Close, Ken Yamamura, Michael Rubenfeld, and Joel Nankervis, each bringing their unique skills and personalities to the project. The series, set in the tumultuous 1880s American frontier, explores themes of honor, sacrifice, redemption, morality, and faith through the lens of a group of mercenaries hired to protect a peaceful Quaker village.
Close takes on the role of Skelton, a cold and calculating character who lives by a brutal code of survival. He is a former Confederate raider turned bounty killer, a face of evil in a lawless world. Close's portrayal of Skelton adds a layer of complexity to the series, as he navigates the moral dilemmas presented by his character's actions.
Yamamura portrays Kenji, a warm and curious individual with a tragic past. Raised to be a samurai, Kenji's destiny was cut short by the Meiji Restoration in Japan. After avenging his father's murder, he fled his country, carrying his shame and sword. Yamamura's Kenji brings a sense of hope and resilience to the group, as he strives to leave his pain behind and find a righteous moment to draw his blade.
Rubenfeld's character, Eli "Wick" Kagan, is a da Vinci-esque genius inventor. With a sickly childhood spent indoors, Wick developed a deep understanding of mechanical engineering. He brings a sense of chaotic hope to the group, masking his loneliness behind a crooked grin and a spark of genius. Rubenfeld's portrayal of Wick adds a layer of intrigue to the series, as his genius and isolation create a unique dynamic within the group.
Nankervis plays Jeb, a quick-witted and impulsive Quaker teenager with a fascination for gunslingers. Jeb's nervous energy and carefree attitude are transformed by the reality of the world and the dangers it poses. Nankervis' portrayal of Jeb adds a sense of youthful exuberance and moral complexity to the series, as he grapples with the teachings of nonviolence and the necessity of fighting back.
The series is written and executive produced by Tim Kring, alongside Donald De Line, Lawrence Mirisch, Bruce Kaufman, and Matt Dillon. Casting is handled by Seth Yanklewitz, ensuring a diverse and talented ensemble cast. The production is a collaboration between MGM+ Studios and MGM Television Studios, bringing this epic tale to life.
As the series progresses, the audience will delve into the backstories of each of the Seven, exploring their motivations and the stakes they face. The central question of whether violence is acceptable to defend people whose faith is based on non-violence will be a driving force, challenging the characters and the audience alike. With the addition of these four talented actors, ‘The Magnificent Seven’ is poised to deliver a captivating and thought-provoking narrative that explores the complexities of honor, sacrifice, and morality in a lawless frontier.
